thoughts on the internet as a whole

How big is the internet? If we are measuring in data then over a quadrillion gigabytes. If we’re talking about physically then probably at least four hundred million people. Giving a guess at the average intelligence level of these ‘hypothetical people’ by glance at the web, it looks bleak. Understandably people congregate together, forming large crowds, on sites such as Google, YouTube, Twitter et cetera. This is not necessarily a bad thing. Crowds are important, to create a sense of belonging to a group. However I fear that this virtual land known as the internet is becoming just like the landfills in real life. Like a town becoming run down because of too much congestion and chaos. This town is dilapidated to point of feeling desolated despite the liveliness. The few inhabitants that are still awake here wish for annihilation. Graded with arrows or hearts, the sense of value has been lost. It’s rare to find something that can land true. Undoubtedly the presence of crowds is vital to value the work, so if the majority of the crowd claims it the be valuable it can be shared with more people. By doing so we can consume high quality media, while teaching people how to grow as well. I wonder, if the current scoring system present in social media algorithms would be more reflective if people voted anonymously - without seeing the general public’s votes. The original poster could see the true value behind their screen, unshakable by the sight of others. While the presence of worthless post will never disappear completely, I wish the inhabitants of the internet to be aware. Only then will we move forward.
